with a winter weather alert. as if sandy wasn't enough, residents in the northeast dealing with a second dose of disaster. 60,000 people lost power today again after yesterday's nor'easter and new york officials are about to make a drastic decision to curb the gas crisis. will thomas joins us now with more. >> the same region devastated by sandy last week just can't get a break, at least not yet. now a nor'easter has made recovery efforts more difficult and snowfall and outages just adds to the problem. it is so bad there is gasoline rationing in new york city and long island. i'll explain how that's working after we look at what's going on. let's roll this. sanitation trucks are clearing piles of debris on staten island, this ighborhood a full mile from the ocean dealing with 12 feet of water, 12 feet, all across the region hundreds of thousands still freezing in the dark. millions of people, yes, got their power back after sandy tore through only to lose it again from the nor'easter. it dumped up to a foot of snow in some parts of new jersey alone. lots of stories of kindness and generosity

's time we get a break. first you had superstorm sandy, then the nor'easter and seriously cold temps. gary mcgrady is with us. so, gary are let's hope some warm weather is sticking around.a while. >> will, today we were up to 58 degrees. we're into the 60s for the weekend and at least on monday. it will get cooler after monday. right now, though, we look at satellite picture. it's all fair out there. there are some showers coming into northwestern ohio right now, all indications are that's going to weaken and dissipate. we may see a few high and midlevel clouds early tomorrow morning. the plan for the weekend is this ridge of high pressure really will kind of pump up through the area and keep us protected. that will keep most of the cloud cover going north of us. any chance of rain going to the north of us and maybe more importantly, it will bring in these southerly winds. it will help get temperatures back up to the mild category. i think we're probably going to be up into the middle 60s tomorrow and as we start getting into sunday, we're talking the upper 60s. it would not surprise me on

on today. it's been nearly four days since superstorm sandy slammed into the east coast and this morning in many areas, it is still a dire situation. the death toll from the storm has been raised to 92 people in the u.s. 3.5 million customers along the eastern seaboard are still without power this morning. and the economic losses are just staggering. an estimated $30 billion to $50 billion. right now rescue agencies are trying to get food and water to those in need. gasoline, in very short supply in parts of new york and new jersey. long, long lines. now a common sight at many gas stations in the region. people waiting two, three, four hours to get to the pumps. sometimes just to find there's no gas left and yes anger is starting to spill over. some gas station owners have been closing their businesses to let tempers cool down. they're calling in police for help. it's not a good situation. homeland security secretary janet napolitano and top fema officials will visit staten island today to get a look at the devastation there caused by hurricane sandy. yesterday police found the bodies of

, or hurricane sandy, were all of those things factors that tipped the scales in favor of the president. >> everybody likes to pontificate the day after. i'm sure it played a part in it. we'll know in the next few weeks whether all of it played a part in it. for i fact that, if you look at the polling based off of what came out this summer and what came out this fall, mitt romney was defined in the campaign. the romney campaign did not shoot back, did not fight back earlier in the summer. that held. that stuck. the debates pushed him back up but in the end, the obama campaign hay great turnout machine. i mean unprecedented in turnout machine. i oversaw the turnout with bush in the re-elect in 2004 and when you've had five years to build a turnout machine, think about that, the romney campaign had eight months. the obama campaign had five years. we had that same situation in 2004 when we were going against kerry. you have a lot more resource that you can dedicate. you have a better organization. it proved ultimately the victory. >> the next question is, moving forward with the republican

, joe. 11 days since sandy struck, and now new york city and surrounding areas are now having gas rations. every other day you can get gas depending on the last digit of your license plate. this is because of supply and distribution issues. the power is going back on in a lot of those gas stations, but these lines continue. just to give you an example in brooklyn where i live, at 2:00 a.m. when i come to work, it was still a two-hour-long line. people sitting there with gas cans waiting to get it. it's incredible that it continues now almost two weeks since sandy struck. gas rationing because of shortages in new york city. this morning temperatures continue to be very cold on the heels of that nor'easter. the snow is still on the ground. bundle up. windchills in the 20s in new england. even down to the 30s all the way down to washington, d.c. so this is it, though. we're going to start to warm it up in this region of the country. we desperately need it. it's been rough out there. it's going to be in the 50s today instead of the 40s. we should melt a lot of that snow. as we go thro
